The Honorable Gilbert H. Jertberg

Born February 1, 1897 in Springfield, Missouri. Attended elementary and high school in Chino, California; received his A.B. from Stanford University in 1920, and his J.D. from Stanford Law School in 1922. Theta Chi, social; Phi Alpha Delta, law; Phi Beta Kappa, scholarship. Married to Henrietta Burns; daughter, Mrs. T. Newton Russell; two grandsons, Thomas Gilbert Russell and James Newton Russell.

LEGAL. Admitted to practice in Federal and State Courts in California, 1922; admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States, 1940; Deputy District Attorney, Fresno County, 1923-24; private law practice 1924-55.

JUDICIAL. Nominated to serve as United States District Judge for the Southern District of Califonria by Dwight D. Eisenhower on January 21, 1955, to a seat vacated by Campbell E. Beaumont; confirmed by the Senate on March 14, 1955, and received commission on March 16, 1955. Nominated to serve on the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit by Dwight D. Eisenhower on August 16, 1958, to a seat vacated by Dal M. Lemmon; confirmed by the Senate on August 19, 1958, and received commission on August 21, 1958. Assumed senior status on September 30, 1967. Council Member, Judicial Section of the American Bar Association. Died June 8, 1973, in Fresno, California.

EDUCATIONAL. Member of the Board of Governors, Fresno State College Foundation, more than twenty-five years. Past Member of California State Board of Education, eleven years; Member of Library Development Committee of California State Colleges, since inception in 1964; Chairman of California Commission on Redistricting of Schools, four years; Past President of Stanford Alumni Association; Past Member of Board of Visitors of Stanford Law School.

SERVICE. U.S. Army Lieutenant, 1917-1918; Past President of Fresno City and County Chamber of Commerce; Past President of Fresno County Bar Association; Past President of Fresno Community Chest; Past Director of Fresno YMCA; Past Director of Fresno County Crippled Children's Society; Past Vice Commander, Fresno Post No. 4, American Legion; Member of first Fresno County Civil Service Board; Member of Board of Directors, California State Chamber of Commerce; Chairman of San Joaquin Valley Division, California State Chamber of Commerce.
