The Honorable Loren S. Dahl

Retired U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Loren S. Dahl passed away on March 12, 2003. He was appointed to the bankruptcy bench in 1980. Prior to his retirement in 1994, Judge Dahl served as Chief U.S. Bankruptcy Judge for the Eastern District of California and presided over bankruptcy cases and proceedings filed in the Sacramento Division.

For 30 years prior to his appointment to the bench, Judge Dahl practiced law in Sacramento as a senior partner with the firm of Dahl, Hefner, Stark & Marois. He received his undergraduate degree from the College of the Pacific in 1942. Afterward, he served in the United States Army Air Corps as a 2nd Lieutenant. He received his law degree from Hastings College of Law in San Francisco in 1949.

Judge Dahl was involved extensively in service to his community, acting as Regent of the University of the Pacific, Stockton, since 1980, and held numerous leadership positions in the Boy Scouts of America. In 1993, Judge Dahl was honored by the Sacramento County Bar Association as Judge of the Year.
